Walking up a muddy road,
 just minutes after the rain
 Sarah carries a tiny load
with a heartbeat on the wane.

The end of the climb is near,
just one more step to go,
one more to vanquish the fear
and leave it behind to grow.

She looks down into the misty sea
that entangles trees and life at last.
A longing which is never free
briefly floats on top and then is past.

 Around her the raindrops glisten,
little diamonds all over the ground.
Birds sing, she tries to listen,
but cannot hear a single sound.

 Faint rainbows, a farewell dance.
The sun sets in a red glow.
 She masters one more glance
and understands all there is to know.

 Sarah puts her baby down,
 it silently cries,
and being too tired to sleep,
 she silently dies.
