I’m walking, always trying
to stay afloat on the sidewalk
with the others. Lives are flying
past me, along a line of chalk
so many needs must follow.
Feet numb, voices, echoes, hollow
- I have to concentrate. Don’t turn
around too soon. The lights that burn
are green, moving shades touch me.
Faces haunt me, eyes watch me.
Unheard many words out here are spoken,
and little promises unwillingly broken.
Take care and keep flowing
with the tide, growing
bigger and bigger everyday
on the sidewalk, along the way.
There is no left, no right,
just to and fro.
Every day and every night,
we come, we go.
On the sidewalk.
The sidewalk.
Sidewalk.
Walk.
